Digital, UI/UX
Amazon / Season 2
Most motion graphics in film and television are designed to disappear. When done well, they blend seamlessly into the world on screen, supporting the story without drawing attention to themselves. Unlike post-production work, these graphics need to be built and ready before cameras roll, appearing on in-scene devices and screens that actors physically interact with. Tools like ProtoPie, a UI/UX prototyping application, make this possible by creating responsive, real-time builds that react to touch and movement during the actual shoot.
The example below required a multi-step interactive build in ProtoPie, allowing the actor to open Instagram, log in, and send a direct message to friends, all in a single continuous take. Every element had to be recreated from scratch, replicating the exact look and functionality of a Windows computer, Bing search, and Instagram. However, any imagery used, such as start-up screens, Instagram profile pictures or posts, needed to come from stock libraries to ensure production ownership of all assets. The work required co-opting the appearance and behaviour of real applications while meeting both legal clearance and creative requirements.
